McClelland Premium Imports (MPI) was founded in 2003 with the mission of bringing Europe’s finest, most authentic beers to Canada. The president and resident Beer Knight, Guy McClelland, has built a collection of premium craft beers from European countries steeped in brewing tradition.
What is Oktoberfest?
More than 200 years ago, Oktoberfest originated as a wedding celebration when Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. After celebrating with multiple days of drinking, feasting and horse races, it became an annual event.
Today, Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest featuring a beer festival and a travelling carnival. It is held from mid-September to the first Sunday in October.
Toronto Oktoberfest
At this year’s Toronto Oktoberfest, MPI’s German beer Erdinger, was an enormous sponsor at the festival. Erdinger is the world’s most popular wheat beer, brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. The Erdinger tent offered their Weissbier, Dunkel and Alkoholfrei beers on tap, and a special Oktoberfest Brew that visitors could fill their steins with.
