A couple of weeks ago I took in a family tradition that always kicks off the holiday season for me – A Main Street Christmas in Schomberg, ON (www.amainstreetchristmas.com). If you’ve never had the chance to visit, this should definitely be on your to-do list next year. Located about an hour north of Toronto, this little town comes to life each year offering lots of great events like an evening Farmer’s Parade of Lights, a craft show, ice sculptors, tree lighting, food vendors and adorable little shops that line the street.
The trip just north of the city is well worth the trip to take in the all-country vibe that transplants you to a time of days past.
Small town houses go all out and dress to the nines for the holiday. You can’t help but peer into front windows to take a peek.
The street vendors and entertainment won’t disappoint either. Locals line the street set up with guitars, tambourines and bells to belt out carols and entertain passersby. Nestle in at a warming station with a rustic barrel fire pit and Muskoka chairs and roast chestnuts or just grab a cuppa fair trade organic java or to-die-for sweets from the local Grackle Coffee Company.
If you hang around long enough, there is a chance you will catch the main man too!
